Home Improvement Tips

Here are some of the most popular home improvements to support maximum value for your property.

  • Indoors

  • Paint

A fresh coat of neutral color paint will go a long way to potential buyers.

  • Brighten

Make sure that every surface including windows (inside and out) and windowsills, ledges, door knobs, ceiling fan blades, mini blinds, ceiling, and floor corners are clean. Also, open all curtains to brighten the room.

  • Declutter

It is important to show the most of your home and decluttering will help your home look twice as big.

  • Decorate

Display a vase of fresh (very fresh) flowers in the entry hall or have some fun with a few accessories here and there, making interesting little vignettes that say " Welcome ".

  • Replace

Be sure to fix any flaws in your flooring and be prepared to replace carpets if they are ancient. If a limited budget puts a snag in that plan, start by replacing the carpet in the room that shows the most wear and tear and replace the others as your finances allow.

  • Outdoors

  • Roof

The roof is a big one. If it’s been decades since your roof was revamped, it leaks when it rains, or it appears unattractive, you should look to have it repaired before putting your house on the market – especially if it’s missing any shingles. Not only will it help improve curb appeal, but it will also help raise the value of your home.

  • Patio & Deck

While you have your pressure washer out, give the deck a good soak as well. If that doesn’t help improve the look, it might be time to stain and seal.

  • Garage

It’s time to clean up the clutter. This includes garden tools, bikes, old pots, garbage, sticks, leaves, broken furniture or accessories, and of course, your actual garbage can and recycling bins. Try and keep your home looking as neat and tidy as possible.

  • Landscape

Brown grass that has lots of bald spots and flower gardens that have gone wild can completely change the way a buyer sees your house. Take some time to maintain your lawn by pulling weeds, planting fresh flowers, trimming hedges, cutting the grass, aerating, watering and fertilizing.

  • Finishing Touches

You want to modernize your home’s overall appearance and an easy way to do that is by upgrading its existing features. Refreshing the mailbox, exterior lights, and address numbers is a wonderful place to start, and contemporary designs can give a necessary bump to your property’s appeal.
